About Us

Shine cast and crew members grin as they prepare to take their places for an opening number.

Excellence in the Arts Without Compromise

God created the performing arts for His glory and designed them to touch our hearts. The world tells us we must be willing to do anything for our art, no matter what messages we send or how we compromise our convictions along the way. At Shine, we believe it's possible to tell compelling, well-crafted stories without selling your soul. And we're making a place for students to do exactly that.

Eyes Fixed on Jesus

Personal discipleship is an integral part of our mission. In all of our classes, events, and productions, we work to model and teach the transforming power of Christ's love. We've watched God deepen our students' passion for Him and strengthen their fellowship. We're excited to nourish young men and women who will carry the light of the gospel into the darkness of the world and shine brightly for Him, whether they end up as actors or engineers, missionaries or musicians.

A Spotlight For Every Student

Traditionally, the most naturally gifted students end up front and center, while those with less developed skills get stuck in the background. Shine designs our programs to draw out each student's unique gifts and feature every young artist in a special way. It's mind-blowing to watch God breathe confidence and poise into even our shyest and most reluctant performers as we seek first to ground their identity in Him, and then build up their gifts.

Our Story and Our Directors

Rakel Boisvert is a visionary with contagious energy and a virtually bottomless capacity to love and invest in people. She grew up touring regionally with a youth theatre group that ministered and shared the gospel on the streets and in schools, churches, senior centers, and prisons. Cara Wilcox is a natural leader with deep dreams and a gentle presence. She grew up singing with her family, taking hours of dance classes, and acting in, directing, and writing for school, community, backyard, church, and college theatre groups. In addition to leading Shine, Rakel and Cara are both wives, moms, and staff members at a homeschool tutorial.

Shine got its start in 2018, when Cara started a musical theatre class for her own four children and 14 others, including Rakel's two oldest daughters. Shortly afterward, the two women began teaching drama classes together at a local homeschool program and directing a musical at the end of each year. They soon realized their mutual passion to nurture their students' faith and produce high-quality, meaningful productions. Before long, they were dreaming of a faith-centered school for the arts. In 2025, they officially launched Shine Creative Arts, with a summer camp, an after-school program, and end-of-year musical revue.
